Charter School Facilities Program

Local Program Policies

Local bond Measure K, Measure R and Measure Y provide $50 million, $20 million and $50 million, respectively, for charter school facilities expansion. As expressed in the bond language, charter school funding is intended to provide new seats, to relieve overcrowding at District campuses and to help meet the District's obligations under state Proposition 39.

State-Funded Charter School Facilities Program (CSFP)

In 2002, Assembly Bill (AB) 14 created the Charter School Facilities Program, which is a competitive grant program for site acquisition and construction of new charter school facilities. Since its inception, this program has been funded from three separate bond measures. Proposition 47 provided $100 million statewide and Proposition 55 provided an additional $300 million. The most recent, Proposition 1D, provided $500 million statewide and added rehabilitation of existing District facilities for charter school use as an additional eligible use of CSFP funds.

Charter schools who wish to access these funds from the state should review the requirements of the California School Finance Authority at http://www.treasurer.ca.gov/csfa/ and the Office of Public School Construction at http://www.opsc.dgs.ca.gov.
