Greening Our Schools
LAUSD is committed to supporting sustainable and environmentally-friendly school gardens that offer outdoor laboratories for standards-based instruction, provide natural open space for students and the local community and encourage healthy lifestyle and nutrition choices.
More than 300 school gardens, some with agricultural areas, exist within LAUSD schools. Gardens are maintained by students, volunteers and LAUSD staff. In addition, some schools have Community School Park areas that are accessible to the local community during school off-hours.
