Environmental Aspects of the Site

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) will work in close consultation with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) to complete the documentation of environmental conditions at the Site and to obtain DTSC clearance for the proposed project.

The first step in the DTSC environmental clearance process is to perform a Remedial Investigation (RI) based on a DTSC approved Workplan. Based on the data collected during the RI, a Feasibility Study (FS) was performed to evaluate potential remedial alternatives that will be protective of human health and the environment and support future use of the Site as a school facility and a Public Park. On February 27, 2004, the DTSC approved the combined RI Report and FS Report for the Vista Hermosa Park and Central Los Angeles High School #11. A copy of these final documents (including the DTSC approval letters and Fact Sheets) and other key final environmental reports can be located in the "Documents" tab or by following this link. Recent milestones include the following:

  • DTSC approval of the Remedial Action Plan (RAP) for Vista Hermosa Park on June 10, 2004.
  • DTSC approval for public comment of the Draft RAP for Central Los Angeles High School #11.
  • Distribution of the January 2005 DTSC Fact Sheet regarding Central Los Angeles High School #11.

The public meeting hosted by DTSC to discuss the Draft RAP for Central Los Angeles High School #11 is scheduled for January 19, 2005, 6:30 P.M. at Plasencia Elementary School, Auditorium; 1321 Cortez Street, Los Angeles, California 90026.
