About the "We Build" Program
The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) embarked upon an aggressive, multi-billion dollar school construction and renovation program delivering new and modernized school facilities; the LAUSD is investing $700 million dollars a year for the next ten years for a total of $7 billion dollars in its unprecedented school renovation program.
The "We Build" Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Program, is an initiative of the Los Angeles Unified School District's Facilities Services Division. We connect "We Build" graduates to general and specialty contractors who are in need of a skilled construction workforce. Since the inception of the program, We Build has trained, 2,145 residents and placed 1,500 on LAUSD and other construction job sites.
50% Local Worker Participation Requirement
In recognition of the size and complexity of its school construction program, the Board of Education entered into a
Project Stabilization Agreement (PSA) to ensure labor stability and to maximize local economic benefits through a 50% Local Worker participation requirement. This ambitious Local Worker participation objective is the guiding principle for the "We Build" Program.
